You will not get much sleep

This is a nicely kept up park with good infrastructure. Sites are gravel and are nice and level. The problem is the train tracks for a busy mainline are only 50 feet from the sites. The trains are so close the ground and the motorcoach shook pretty good while the freight trains and about 50 cars passed about once an hour all through the night....
The park is only 3 miles from Historic Williamsburg, so with ear plugs you might get enough sleep to justify a nights stay...stay more than two days...not me again...
By user-6065745... on 2017-10-23.
This is a well maintained campground with clean bathrooms ( but only 2 showers) . The location is mostly ideal except for the active train track. If you are a light sleeper, this is a major problem. The train runs 3-4 times at night. The staff is terrific and helpful.

Very well kept
By user-5883140... on 2017-10-23.
Yes there is a train track... 3 cane buy during the nite. And yes it is small. But we are 19 feet long so small is OK. What we found was a very helpful staff, immaculate facilities including showers, kid friendly, and level sites. Its a little pricie $46 full service, but the. You are only 2 miles from the visitors center. We would stay again.

We stayed here three nights in our 40 foot motorhome. Yes its true there are train track next to the park but I think it just adds charm. This place offers a great location, discount tickets, local transportation right from the park. The park is well maintain and the bathrooms are spotless.

Nice facility, location and staff. Noise.
By user-5278017... on 2017-10-23.
The only thing that keeps this park from getting another star is the noise. Our site was next to the highway. The other side was next to the trains, but the trains are infrequent.
Raymond and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. Really convenient to Colonial Williamsburg. Very well maintained.

Small and noisey

Everything about this park is small. The fire rings are within 3 feet of the coach in the next site. Paved roads, gravel sites with bare dirt patio. This park is squeezed in between a train track and a busy road.
Very nice people at the desk and discount tickets to local attractions.
I'll go to American Heritage next time.

We checked in and drove to our site with very small children on bikes weaving all around us on the narrow roads. Our coach is 37 ft long and 22,000 pounds and I had a 8 yr old on a bike on my left. I almost didn't see him. Our site was narrow and our front wheels had to be off the ground to level. Site 40. The heavy traffic behind us, the train on the other side and the pool and playground on the third side. The man in the office told us that the shuttle bus ran until 10 pm, so we left Colonial Williamsburg at 8 to start making our way back to the campground, only to find out that the last bus was at 9. He told folks on another site the same thing, but he denied saying it. All six of us had to share a taxi back to the campground. It cost my husband and I $9.
The shuttle bus does not belong to the campground, it is a city lines bus. Waiting for buses can take quite a long time. It took an hour and a half and three buses to get out to Jamestown. We just called a cab to get back. Another $25, but worth it. The temperatures were in the mid 90's.
We checked out early and went to VA Beach.
The laundry room was nice and the staff was nice, if misinformed.
American Heritage next time and we will rent a car.

Nice park if you don't mind train and road noise
By user-5829973... on 2017-10-23.
We stayed at Anvil for a month this spring. Sites are gravel and fairly level. They can feel close together when the park is busy. Train tracks are next to the tent sites and many of the RV sites are close to a 2 lane road (not super busy). The road noise bothered me more than the trains. The campground is well-maintained, and the staff is friendly. The location is great - very close to everything in Williamsburg. For us, convenience trumped noise. The monthly rate was a good deal.

I wanted to reserve a Thursday night. I was told because it's memorial day weekend they require a 3 night minimum. Who ever heard of a weekend holiday starting on Thursday?

Pretty decent place

Our site was plenty level with enough room to get off the road. But, the sites were narrow & there wasn't any shade. Clean facilities & nice employees.

We stayed for 8 nights. Campground was immaculate. Yes there are trains, but you get used to them. Fully stocked store and probably the most helpful staff we have met camping. We will be back to stay again.

Very nice small campground, 4 acres, clean, neatly kept, level sites, full hook ups, staff helpful, convient location to sights, shopping, dining etc. Fairly expensive though. Our Class A, 45ft, over $70/nt. Trains 6-8 times per day, mostly daytime. Staff very helpful!!

Outstanding customer service and campground!
By user-6330671... on 2019-08-09.
Anvil Campground has the best customer service around! They continuously go out of their way to help their guests. Anyone coming to visit Williamsburg should stay here. Great for all ages too and so close to all the attractions. Absolutely love this place!

Wow! Our favorite campground ever!
By user-unknown on 2019-08-09.
My family stayed recently and we were just amazing at how nice the entire staff were to us and how extremely clean the entire park was. Our kids loved all the fun play areas. We felt super safe. We were so relaxed. The environment was pure family. When we did leave to go see the attractions; we were so close we could not believe it! We were truly taken care of by Anvil. They made us feel so special . We would highly recommend Anvil Campground to anyone coming to the Williamsburg area. Thank you!

We arrived on Saturday, to a great staff for sign in. They were able to put me in a very roomy spot (#10) atthe end of the tent row. I couldnt have been happier! Backed the class c into the spot, and got it pretty much leveled up (it took two sets of leveling blocks to get 'close enough'.) While its true the railroad tracks are close (as a railfan, that counts as a plus) they are rare, and did not disturb our sleep. The bathrooms were not mopped out until monday morning, so the floors were muddy as it was a wet weekend. But monday morning, they were cleaned and the showers were nice. We are an older couple with no kids, so seeing the number of play areas this place had was nice, as it kept the kids occupied, and out of trouble. The larger sites had nice wooden swings and fire rings. This was my wifes first time in the RV and the trip was a big success, thanks in part to this family oriented campground.

Very, very tight spaces. All backins. Very noisey. We were on the road side and it sounded like a speedway. When the train went by it shook our coach.

Staff

As a follow up to my earlier review, the staff at this campground is the best. Wish the sites were biggee.
