We are planning a trip across the country from PA to CA in our pop up camper and visited the HersheyPark Camping Resort to help get us ready to go. The location was great (a 5 minute free shuttle ride to the park), the campsite was perfect, the bathrooms were very clean and the staff were super friendly! Yes, the train noise isn't desirable, but all-in-all it is a beautiful campground! Site 105 was perfect!!
I was very impressed as I pulled in to the site . Beautifully landscaped . We backed in to our site , which was a little tight for our 40' 5th wheel . We did managed to get in . Shortly after settling in , we heard the train coming as it was getting louder and louder as it finally was just above us about 50 ' away up on a hill . I thought with the camper closed up and the ac fan running it would drown the noise out . Later that night I found out it was not true . I counted 3 freight trains running in a 1hr. period . I was so sleep deprived I was miserable when we took the kids to Hershey park in the morning . Sat. Was worse than Fri. Night . Next time I will bring ear plugs . Maybe they should entertain building a sound barrier wall like the highways . Then I would give it a 5 star rating .
For starters the name of this campground is now Hersheypark Camping Resort. The street name has changed to Sweet street and the last digit on their phone number has also changed to a 9. So I'm assuming that no ratings have really been added since changes have been made to the grounds (I did put in a correction request to RV Parky). We are from Harrisburg, PA about 8 miles from Hershey. So staying somewhere so close to home was unconventional for us, but we enjoyed every second of it. We own a 40ft 5th wheel and haul it with a 2011 3500 Ram dually. Pros: -check in is a breeze (during peek check in hours staff set up outside about 300 yards or so from the entrance and quickly check you in by walking up to your vehicle with an iPad. - friendly staff - convenient general store with a little of anything you may need - countless amount of recreational activities for children and family. Nice pool, volley and basketball courts, recreation room, several playgrounds, amongst many others -grounds and facilities are very clean. - trash gets picked up by staff from your sight. - we were allowed early check in at no additional cost "you can check in as early as you'd like" (there was no one at our sight the night before) - no limit on the number of people on your site, no additional cost to visitors (aside from -$7 overflow parking fee) all activities on the grounds are open to your visitors at no extra cost. (Visitors have to be off the grounds by 11 otherwise it's considered an overnight stay. But really no one was checking) -Grounds are easy to navigate. It wasn't difficult for us to pull in to our site. (Pioneer Heights site 51c) good amount of green space. - free trolley to and from hershey park every 1/2 hour. Runs from 8a-11p. Park opens an hour early for hershey occupants. -countless amount of things to do in the area off grounds. -grounds feel safe and the area has an extraordinary police department. (Derry Township PD) -open to all campers (tent, pop-up, class a, etc... You name it, they welcome it. Cons: - our site wasn't shaded but we come prepared for that. - bugs. However, we were able to purchase a fogger at the general store that took care of that problem right away. - TRAIN. Let me address this because it's the number one complaint I hear about these grounds....the train does pass by constantly around the clock, unscheduled. However, it passes by quickly and we could hear it but it did not disturb us at all. To summarize our visit we loved our stay, our visitors loved it, the kids all had a blast, and being able to experience the grounds with family led to the convincing of my in laws to purchase their own RV.
