| A great value

We stayed here to visit friends that live close by. A very convenient and clean campground. As others have noted the roads are not paved but the water, power and sewer are modern and everything worked with no problems. A great value if you want to stay in the Raleigh area. Recommended.

| Great get away place

The only complaint that I have about the fairgrounds is the dust. But they do spray with water the interior dirt/gravel roads to try to keep this under control. We enjoy coming here on weekends to just get away when we do not want to travel any distance. Many restaurants are just a short drive away and lots of different options. On weekends there is always lots going on at the Fairgrounds itself which makes a nice Saturday outing. The "new" campground is a well kept secret. It is tucked away and hidden behind the Gov. James Hunt Horse Arena. Easy access from I-40 and to RDU. Do not go in the month of October when the State Fair is going on as the campground is closed to transient traffic.

| Good Choice

This is our first stay in this section. The rate did go up to $30.00 and is $35.00 for the month of October. Reservations are accepted for October only, if you are part of the International Bluegrass Music Association block. We are not, but they didn't know that. Just say that you are, and there is no problem. There is no verification of any kind. Since we got here in September there were many sites open. Just pick one and then tell the Officials where you are when you pay. There is a Ranger station at the front gate. Although the rate bumps to $35 in October, we were charged $30/day for the entire stay. I think that the math would have confused the Ranger, as everything was done in his head. No wash houses here. Just some Johnny on the Spots. As part of the IBMA there is a shuttle at the campground that takes you into town for free. I didn't see anyone get on it, buts it's a nice idea. There is little shade, some dust, and nothing for any kids. But you are close to everything. Other than dust, it's clean, safe, modern. There are older sites elsewhere in the fairgrounds under pine trees off of Youth Center Rd that we used to use. Sometimes overflow parking from the other activities blocked our site. At the Fairgrounds, be sure to find Deputy Sheriff Odis G Stephenson and say "hello."

The campground IS located on a hill behind the Horse Complex. You enter the campground from Youth Center Drive at Gate H7.....go straight in and you'll see the campground up the hill to your left. Nice facility but can be crowded.....best to call ahead and inquire to avoid disappointment. Great location to all points in Raleigh. All sites are back-in, with full hookups (50 & 30 Amps). You pick your site, then call and an officer will come and register you...$25/night. Sites in back are less dusty....roads are packed clay.

Have stayed here several times. Large gravel sights, security, close to downtown Raleigh. Restaurants close by. Will here again.

Easy access, though hard to find, if you haven't been here before. Virtually, no direction signs. No pull through sites, but plenty of room to unhook a car or trailer. If you need a bath house or washer/dryer, you wont find them here. This is a place to park eith reasonable elbow room and conveniently placed hook ups. For the money, a bargain. Bring cash or checks. Credit cards not accepted.

| Close to PNC arena and Carter Finley Stadium

Fit our needs for a three day stop over. Short walk to stadium and arena As noted a little hard to find. The fair grounds is many blocks and different areas. Follow youth Center drive until you see gate H-7, then follow road to the left. Nothing fancy, but if you just need a safe place to park, it’s perfect and 30 dollars with full hook ups is great right in the city. Has washrooms and showers but too far to walk to. Would stay again

| Quiet and full hook ups

We needed to stop in Raleigh for the night and stayed here. It’s very quiet, huge and full hookups. Call the number and an attendant will meet you to show you your spot and get you checked in, $30 night. There are 30 and 50 amp spots. I went for a jog around the fairgrounds, which is sprawling.

Reasonable price $30 a night. It is a gravel lot, but has full hookups. I loved how they allowed us to pick any empty spot we wanted. Our lot #30 is level and nice. Peaceful campground, extremely friendly staff. They do have a bathhouse but I haven't been in it, no laundry. Overall it's a nice place to relax and take it easy for a few days!!

| No Pavement!

We backed our 40 foot Newmar in no problem, The area was lovely, but rather full. Unfortunately there was heavy rain for three days and there was so much mud every where that all was filthy by the time we left. Staff was very nice and came to collect payment after we picked our own spot.

| Good value

Great for a short stay. They dont have showers or restrooms on the main campground. They have many spots all around the fairgrounds. Full hookups, quiet and well maintained. Wifi was iffy. No cable tv. And a gravel road. And cant reserve. These are my only cons. Pros..very close to everything in Raleigh and Carey. Great price. They kept the road watered. The guy thAt checked us in was nice. We will go back the next time in Raleigh

| Hidden gem

WOW we found a hidden gem in Raleigh NC. The North Carolina State Fairgrounds. Large grassy sites, full hookups, trash at every two sites. All for only $30 a night. It s open from April-September 30th. We ll definitely stop again.
