It's OK I guess.
By user-6385369... on 2017-10-23.
Stayed here first week of June in my travel trailer. I read the reviews before making a reservation. I'm not one of those picky professional RV guys that has a sign post out front greeting people as they walk by and gawk at my trailer. Just here for the beach and some good food. That being said this place is cleanish. We scored a Choice spot right across from the dumpster. I guess it's ok. I love the smell of stale wine bottles as I grill my burgers. The people up front seemed friendly enough, but apparently if you don't follow the rules the campground swat team will swoop in and evict you. Beach access sucks, you have to fight the dune and it's sand spurs. 2 very steep climbs that would challenge you teens, and definitely turn away the meek. Didn't use their bath house, I brought my own...it was very quiet over night though. I had the windows closed, shades down and the AC cranked though. Good luck on your adventure.

It is still the Outer Banks
By user-6682831... on 2017-10-23.
We stayed here for 14 days in a fifth wheel. We were attracted to this campground because of the price, half of what the KOA offered next door. The sites are very tight leaving little to no room for anything outside the camper. No parking for your tow vehicle normally end up parking in the little bit of grass you have between units. Bathhouse is small with no privacy at showers or urinals/toilets. I couldn't site on the toilet with the door closed. The pool is very small and if there is more than 4 or 5 people in it its full. However, it is the outer banks so I gave it 3 stars.

Quiet family campground

My wife and I usually camp at state parks with our motorhome but I really wanted to see some of the Outer Banks, so we looked into private campgrounds. Ocean Waves is a very nice facility. The campsites look to be slightly more spacious than those in the nearby KOA and Ocean Waves definitely has more shade trees. (There's more wood in a box of toothpicks than on the entire KOA site.)
The bath houses are not new but are well kept, very clean and serviceable. The camp store has a lot of the basic camping necessities plus souvenirs which are very reasonably priced.
There are several restaurants within easy walking distance which is a treat for us. In our normal state park campgrounds we are usually many miles from anything.
All sites have a level concrete pad and picnic table. Most sites are 30/50 amp services with a few that are 30 amp only. Backing in was not difficult and the paved streets easy to navigate. The campground was about 30% full and was very quiet. It has direct beach access by merely walking across the dunes.
They do not allow open fires in the campground but the office has permits allowing fires on the beach if you wish. Water pressure was more than adequate and the electric power reliable. We did not try the cable TV which was an extra $3 per night. Wifi is included and bandwidth was fine for our iPads but as noted, they were only about 30% full.
Our 30 amp site was $48/night. The 50 amp sites are $52. We were there in mid April, and I am sure the summer rates are more.
When we decide to head back to that part of the Outer Banks, we will definitely stay here.

Packed in like sardines. Beach access is terrible, climbing over the dunes.

Camping in the OBX
By user-6277164... on 2017-10-23.
First time camping in the OBX..This campground is very nice and the people are friendly. Bathhouse showers are good, commode stalls are tight but still good. Sites are good. Only tight backing in to your site. Other than that it's all good. Thanks Ocean Waves.

Watch out
By user-5867702... on 2017-10-23.
We had reservations and when we arrived were told they had no site for us. There had been heavy rains in the area and the site we were assigned was under water.
There had been no communications letting us know ahead of time so we could locate another campground. Locating another site at 7pm is not fun on an island with limited sites that are booked up.
Further more they still charged my credit card $50.88 for the site, a little fact I did not find out until I received my statement a month later.
Update: after several phone calls they did finally refund the $50.88 charge on my card.

I like it
By user-5904112... on 2017-10-23.
first time for me at the Outer Banks. The thoughts are a little tight but you still have plenty of room. The place is clean. The owners were very friendly to me and my wife. They had an Easter dinner at the owner's house and invited us over and we came over and ate free of charge the food was really good. The walk to the beach is a little tough if you're out of shape and fat like me but I managed. The price was about 50 bucks a night and well worth it the internet is so so the cable TV is ok I will be back

Great for the price

We stayed at the KOA nextdoor, but checked out this place for next time. It's pretty cheap and has decent sized sites for the area. Will be camping here next time

A little tight but we had a great spot right next to the beach access. Dogs allowed on the beach which was great for us. Nice people. The rate was a little high, but it is on the beach.
Dining options were slim, bring your own groceries, you'll need them. Resort area...

Good choice
By user-6176351... on 2019-08-09.
We stayed here for a few days in July 2018 . I liked that this place had trees. KOA down the road is pricey and I didn t see any shade there. Save your money and come to ocean waves. I would give it a five if they fixed up the pool a bit.

On the beach!
By user-5664792... on 2019-08-09.
This family owned location is right by the beach. Has many trees! Clean showers and nice pool. Well priced for the stay. They also worked well with us when we were running 2 days late.
