Excellent!

We arrived Friday after the Visitor’s Center was closed. We tried to pay for Friday night on Saturday morning but they only charged us for Saturday night, thus we only paid $8 for both nights.
It’s located downtown, only a short walk from River Street. There were First Friday fireworks the first night we stayed and a parade Saturday morning. We walked all over on Friday and Saturday though there wasn’t anywhere we felt safe enough to bike due to traffic.
It was clean and the staff were very friendly. Convenient dining. Would definitely stay again. Wish more cities were this friendly to RVers. We spent quite a bit of money in local businesses that we would otherwise not have since we saved so much on lodging.
Due to the unbearable heat and humidity, we would gladly have paid extra for electricity to be able to run our air conditioner and the City of Savannah should consider adding metered coin/credit operated power outlets to the RV parking sites.
*Another poster said they will no longer allow RV parking after the first of the year, however, they were busy with their jackhammers installing brand new “RV Parking Only” signs on Saturday morning, 10/07/17.

Perfect for couple of days of exploring
By user-5261844... on 2017-10-23.
This is the perfect place from which to explore the beautiful and historical downtown Savannah. The trolley tours leave from here, or it's an easy 1.6 mile walk to the waterfront. We did both. To stay overnight, register upstairs at the visitor centre: $8/night. Payment is cash only, and they need your licence plate number. They will issue you a permit good for 24 hours from time of purchase to place in your windshield, that you will provide to the agent at the parking lot booth when you leave. There were a handful of other RV's there, and it was was a quiet and peaceful stay. For more details and photos visit : https://www.facebook.com/SailingBanyan

Excellent safe space to stay downtown
By user-5809131... on 2017-10-23.
Planned on staying 2 nights, ended up enjoying the spot so much I stayed for 3. $8 a night is great considering the location and security. There were several other RVs there on various nights, everyone was friendly, and a prime location to walk around downtown, explore the waterfront and dive bars, and walk back to crash, at most it was a 15 minute walk back.
To get the pass you need to walk into the Visitors Center, go up the stairs to the left and walk to the end where the service desk is. They'll need your license plate number and only take cash.

RV-friendly parking lot in a great location

The Savannah Visitors Information Center has dedicated RV parking spaces large enough for our 32.5' class C motorhome. The lot was reasonably easy to get into and was conveniently located on the edge of the historic district. Stayed about five hours and the tab was only $4. Lots of really good restaurants in walking distance. We walked south along MLK about two blocks to the Rancho Allegre Cuban Restaurant which was excellent.
I do not know of they allow you to overnight in this lot, though.

Great place to stay. Sunday nights and holidays are free. Amazingly close to all the downtown activities - took our bikes everywhere from here and left the truck/trailer. The parking lot is tight however and NOT big rig friendly. Unfortunately we were told by the visitor center staff the city will not be allowing rv parking here anymore after the first of the year as they don't have enough space for increased parking needs.

Great location...free on Sunday & overnight.
By user-5990560... on 2017-10-23.
Excellent, spacious overnight parking w/lots of light. 5 other RVS with us (Aliner pop-up)...in historic district! When we called to verify overnight parking, was told erroneously that we couldn't. At the info desk was informed we were WELCOME to stay overnight & that it was FREE on Sunday! Best to be out before 8 a.m. Walked to dinner at Alligator Soul for best shrimp & grits ever! Old Savannah Trolley tour was nice overview before venturing out on our own. Also used free public bus to get around. Great ice-cream at Leopold's.

Good place. Be cautious if towing trailer. Just ask staff, very nice.

You can stay here over nite.
By user-5883140... on 2017-10-23.
No facilities but for $8 per nite or two notes for $14 you can't beat it. In the heart of the historical district you can walk to everything. Plus come and go as you wish.... Regular parking is $4 pee hour.... Need we say more?

No longer allowing overnight parking!
By anonymous-user on 2018-03-14.
Showed up today to find out that RVs are not allowed to stay overnight anymore. What a shame! We stayed here a few times over the last five years. We've been around the country several times, and this was one of the most convenient and affordable setups within a city.

Good Option For Daytime Parking
By user-6188949... on 2018-05-17.
Not wanting to spend $20 to park at the Visitors Center, I called the Savannah Police Department and asked if there are any lots that can accommodate a RV. They directed me to the Convention Center parking lot. This is across the river off Hwy 17. It is next to the Westin Hotel. The parking is free and there is a free ferry that goes across the river every 20 minutes.

Good for day parking

Not for rigs over 30’. Tight for our 30’ Winnie. We got to enjoy downtown Savannah and would stay here again.

Sadly, Now Just Cash Cow
By user-5814189... on 2018-07-06.
I enjoyed parking here over night off and on for years. I never witnessed a RVer caused problem. The bottom line here is that it was just too good of a deal, so we'll close it and feel virtuous.

No longer allow RV parking

I tried to stay overnight in late July 2018. The attendant told me that the policy had changed and they no longer allow overnight parking for RVs

We stayed but...

We parked during the day but had to make sure we left before 6.30pm otherwise we would have been ticketed. Signs said no overnight parking and that is the official policy... but... when we got back to rv just before 6.30pm we saw a police car parked... we asked the police about parking overnight. They said if we were there at 6 30pm that we would be ticketed. They said to make sure we left (note parking fee for RV's on exit is $20). They then told us to come back later that night around 8pm... and just make sure we leave before 8am the next morning... we did this... we had a quiet night with no issues or hassles. The gates stay open all night long so no problems getting back in. $20 was day parking rate and it was then free for overnight...
