Very bad experience: don't camp here
By user-5819380... on 2017-10-23.
We experienced significant damage to our camper here. Also, there was only ONE working women's toilet and ONE sink when we were there. You choose between a brightly lit parking lot or a field where campers are crammed together. The crew mowed the field near our pop-up camper. Their machine ripped our welcome mat in half, put a hole in our camper, and knocked down our awning. Our awning had metal that was ripped back in a way that we needed to break the metal just to put the awning down.
When we showed the manager the damage, he was sympathetic, but the leader of the mowing crew (who mowed there) called us liars and walked away. The manager sided with his lawn mower and said the damage could have been there before (EVEN THOUGH it would have been IMPOSSIBLE for us to drive into the campground with the metal on our awning bent back in that manner.) Their insurance company refused to pay.
Additionally, they told us the WRONG site to park in, then made us move. Being in a pop-up camper, we had to take everything out, put the camper down, move it literally 15 feet, put it back up again, and move everything back in. Talk about a waste of 1 1/2 hours! This campground is just not worth it.

Breathtaking views

The views were spectacular! We occupied space 15 which overlooked the water and sat next to the boat launch. The boat launch was very busy, sometimes until 1:30am, and we missed not having a fire pit, sewer, or a dump station on site. However, it was thrilling to watch the tide roll in at night and fill the beach directly behind us. The lighthouse and the moon were perfect for evening walks.
We enjoyed the 1.2 mile bicycle rides to the charming downtown area of Salem, when we weren't on the tiny, but clean, beach at Winter Island.
We stayed near the end of the season which left few items on the shelves in the store. We can't wait to go back in October.

Bad but beautiful

As a park Winter Island has a lot going for it. We stayed 2 nights and were happy to leave. As an RV campground it has little going for it other than it was the only campground we could locate in the Salem area. The appears it would probably be a very good campground for tent camping, but the RV spots are crowded appearing to have been hastily thrown together as an afterthought. No sewer hookups are available and the dump station is down the road a half mile.

Sitting on the ocean, water and elect. not crowded and great staff. If you want one of the 6 water front spots plan as far ahead as possible. short bike ride to downtown Salem. Be sure to visit Willow park for the pop corn and ice cream.

Great Campsite
By user-5322545... on 2017-10-23.
It’s not fancy, by any means. We were in the field, but it was roomy. A short walk down the hill was a beautiful view of the ocean. Close to shopping, right in Salem. One negative would be driving through some narrow, busy streets to get to the Campground. Easy commute to Boston, too. WiFi was great

One of our favorite campgrounds!
By user-5055794... on 2017-10-23.
Would be five stars if they had sewer onsite! We managed fine for five days using the clean showers in the bath house. The views from the waterfront sites are awesome, but book early as there aren't many. Sites 1-5 back up to the old hangar and are pretty good too. Park is withim walking distance to Salem (if you are a walker - about 1.5 miles to "In a Pig's Eye" pub on Derby Street). We stayed 15 days and hated to leave! Staff is friendly and helpful - price on waterfront is $42 a night as of Oct 2015. As a note, field sites if you must - but not great.

Blacktop
By user-6372823... on 2018-03-14.
This place is Wal-Mart camping with water. Campsites are pavement with lines drawn on the ground and no separation. Quite literally a parking lot. The view of the water is nice, but that's about it. When we were there, there was a crew working in the decrepit warehouse making all sorts of construction noise. Then partiers showed up and parked on our campsite/parking lot. This is apparently ok

Nice but pricy
By user-4696069... on 2019-08-09.
We stayed for one night. There are green spots and a big parking lot on which to stand. Best Spots are for tents though. And with 54 Dollars a night in September during the week not cheap. However there is a nice beach, it is calm at night but useless wifi.

Very nice place on the ocean All boats in the sea, lawn playground..Very kind and patient staff very nice people. Lots of benches for sitting by the sea.
Very kind and patient staff very nice people. There is water and electricity in the place, drained sewage instead of Lade ask the office for approval, 2 minutes and you are there drained sewer and come back if you need to. To Boston. You have to get out of the Uber or Lyft ft or taxi to the nearest train station. Nothing to do I don't know if there are any sites close to Boston.
